86 High Street was listed by the former Department of Environment in June 1974 as Grade II, of special interest. It dates from the 18th century and is built from colour-washed roughcast over a timber frame and has a thatched roof. The cottage comprises a single storey and attics

The Rating and Valuation Act 1925 specified that every building and piece of land in the country was to be assessed to determine its rateable value. The valuer visiting the cottage [DV1/C217/133] found that it was owned by W Chapman of Leicester and rented by J Hancock for £3/15/- per annum. Accommodation comprised a kitchen, scullery and bedroom with a barn at the end of the house. The valuer commented: "Very poor type".
