Sandstone Lodge Southill

Sandstone Lodge 1905

Sandstone Lodge sits at one of the entrances to Southill Park. It is not an old building, a plaque showing that is was built by the Whitbread Estate in 1905. It was listed by the former Department of Environment as Grade II, of special interest. It is constructed of pink sandstone and has a thatched roof. It is a single storey building and includes a rustic verandah supporting the roof.

In 1927 Southill was valued under the Rating Valuation Act 1925; every piece of land and building in the country was assessed to determine the rates to be paid on it. The valuer visiting Southill Park noted that Sandstone Lodge comprised a living room, kitchen, scullery and two bedrooms, all on the same floor.
