5 Mill Road was listed by English Heritage in August 1983 as Grade II, of special interest. It is said to date from around 1700 and is timber-framed with brick infill and a colour washed roughcast render. The original dwelling had two rooms downstairs, separated by a back-to-back hearth which warmed both rooms. The cottage comprises one storey and attics beneath a thatched roof. There is a lean-to addition on the west side.

The Rating and Valuation Act 1925 legislated for every building and piece of land in the country to be assessed to determine its rateable value. Thurleigh, like much of the county, was assessed in 1927. The valuer found [C73/127] that the cottage was owned by the owner of Scald End Farm, T. Wagstaff and occupied by E. Asque whose rent was £7 per annum for a parlour, a living room and two bedrooms with two barns standing outside.
