Silsoe in 1856

A map in the Lucas collection at Bedfordshire and Luton Archives and Records Service shows Silsoe in 1856 [L33/12/13]. It was made for the 2nd Earl de Grey and gives the names of all his tenants. Comparing the map with a map of today gives the following tenants for houses which have survived:

  • The Red House:  no tenant's name given
  • Vicarage Cottage: Abel Denton (changed from Widow Yates) closest to the road; John Stapleton furthest from it
