Westview Cottage Keysoe
Westview Cottage March 2016
Westview Cottage is not listed; it used to have the Grade III designation, but that grade was abolished some years ago. The cottage is 18th century, timber-framed with roughcast render and thatched, comprising one storey and attics.
The Rating and Valuation Act 1925 specified that every building and piece of land in the country was to be assessed to determine its rateable value. The valuer visiting the cottage [DV1/C213/3] found it ownedby C Brown and occupied by A Hall at a rent of £5 per annum (rent before the Great War had been £3/10/- per annum).
The cottage comprised a living room, kitchen and two bedrooms. A wood and brick store barn and a wood and corrugated iron store barn both stood outside. The valuer thought the property: “Very bad”. It used to be two one-up-one-down tenements.
