The Plough Public House, Stotfold

Information taken from Stotfold Pubs and Publicans by Bert Hyde.

The Plough Public House: 79 The Green, Stotfold

The Plough was opened in 1776 and was the southernmost of 2 semi-detached cottages which were located at the front of the present site of 1 Rook Tree Lane. The original Plough Pub was burnt down sometime between 1864 and 1871 and was not rebuilt. The Misses Payne who was the owners and licensees moved to an adjacent cottage that belonged to them (currently 79 The Green) and continued to trade as The Plough beerhouse. The Plough was a small two storeyed building with a gabled roof. The Plough closed in 1879 and became a domestic dwelling before being demolished in 1969, it was replaced by the bungalow known as 79 The Green.
