The Jolly Butchers Public House, Stotfold
Information taken from Stotfold Pubs and Publicans by Bert Hyde.
The Jolly Butcher was located on The Green in Stotfold and opened in 1867. Originally the pub was known as Dilleys beer house; it was also unofficially known as the Dust Hole. In 1872 the pub was sold to the Baldock Brewers Simpson and Co. In the sales particulars it states ‘a thatched house, containing tap room, kitchen, cellar and three bedrooms. At the side of the house straw yard, with lodge, skittle alley and large barn and to the rear is a large garden’. In 1910 the licencing authorities refused to renew the licence; it closed on 17th January 1911. The building was demolished in 1997 and the area is now occupied by some modern housing.
