The Boot Public House, Stotfold

Information taken from Stotfold Pubs and Publicans by Bert Hyde.

The Boot was located on The Green, directly opposite 38 The Green. The pub opened before 1846. The Lofts owned the pub until 1859 when Hannah Payne, one of four sisters, who also ran The Plough 50 yards away, bought the pub. The pub closed in 1887 and became a bakery. In 1912 the property known as ‘The Boot’ was sold by William Turner, a baker of Henlow to Ernest and Wilfred Dear, builders of Stotfold [ref: Z1116/1/7]. The building was demolished in 1957.
