Mills in Stotfold

There have been mills in Stotfold since the time of the Domesday Survey; four mills were listed in the Domesday Book with a total annual rent paid to Hugh de Beauchamp, Lord of the Manor, of £4 and 400 eels. The four mills mentioned in the Domesday Book have been identified as Newnham Manor mill, Chicksands Priory Mill, John and Alice Wedewessen Mill and Brayes Manor Mill.

By 1707 the number of mills was reduced to two: Randall’s Mill and Taylor’s Mill.
