21 Ickwell Green was listed by the former Department of Environment in March 1985 as Grade II, of special interest. The department dated the property to the 18th century. It is of timber framed construction, some of which is exposed, but mostly with applied colour washed roughcast render. The house has a thatched roof, is built in an L-plan and has one storey and attics. There is a substantial 20th century addition to the east end.

The Rating and Valuation Act 1925 specified that every building and piece of land in the country was to be assessed to determine its rateable value. Ickwell was assessed in 1927 and the valuer visiting 21 Ickwell Green found it owned and occupied by James Radford.

Accommodation comprised a living room, kitchen and two bedrooms. A brick and tiled washhouse, coal shed and earth closet lay outside. There was a small garden and water came from an outside tap.
