1 Ickwell Green was listed by the former Department of Environment in March 1985 as Grade II, of special interest. The department dated the cottage to the 18th century. It is of timber framed construction, with colour washed roughcast render to the exterior and a thatched roof. The building comprises one storey and attics. A substantial 20th century addition in similar style lies to the rear.

The Rating and Valuation Act 1925 specified that every building and piece of land in the country was to be assessed to determine its rateable value. Ickwell was valued in 1927 and the valuer visiting 1 Ickwell Green found it was then a pair of semi-detached cottages, both owned by Albert G. Course of Vine Cottage, Northill.

Half was occupied by Mark Endersby who paid rent of £7/16/- per annum dating from 1918. His accommodation comprised a porch, a living room, a kitchen, a scullery and one bedroom. A barn and an earth closet stood outside and water came from an outside tap. The garden was small.

The other half was occupied by William Taylor, no rent being noted. His accommodation comprised a porch, a living room, a kitchen and two bedrooms. He also had a washhouse, barn and earth closet outside.
