30 Ickwell Green was listed by the former Department of Environment in March 1985 as Grade II, of special interest. The department dated the property to the 18th century, with 20th century reworking. It is built of colour washed roughcast over a timber frame, has a clay tile hipped roof and comprises one storey and attics. A 20th century addition lies to the rear. The listing notes: “Included for group value”.

The Rating and Valuation Act 1925 specified that every building and piece of land in the country was to be assessed to determine its rateable value. Ickwell was assessed in 1927 and the valuer visiting 30 Ickwell Green [DV1/C44/7] noted that at that time it had a thatched roof.

The cottage was owned and occupied by Miss Sarah Jane Lee who had bought it in 1925, along with just over an acre adjoining in Caldecote Road and some farm buildings on it for £325. Accommodation comprised a living room, kitchen and scullery (all “fair”) with two bedrooms above. A washhouse and earth closet stood outside. There was a small garden and mains water was laid on. The valuer commented: “Very nice”.
