The houses 68 to 71 Brook End form an attractive 19th century block in Church End. They have an admirable view over the cricket pitch.

The Rating and Valuation Act 1925 specified that every building and piece of land in the country was to be assessed to determine its rateable value. The valuer visiting the building found that it was owned by the Duke of Bedford’s London and Devon Estates Company. The individual tenements each comprised two living rooms with two bedrooms above. A barn and an earth closet stood outside each. The tenants were as follows:

• 69: Thomas Impey whose rent was two shillings per week;
• 70: A W Lawson whose rent was 2/3 per week;
• 71: W J Neal whose accommodation was rent-free.

In 2008 69 Brook End was for sale. The particulars [Z449/2/40] detail a sitting/dining room measuring 22 feet 6 inches by 11 feet 6 inches and a kitchen measuring 15 feet 3 inches by 7 feet 3 inches on the ground floor. The first floor contained two bedrooms and a bathroom. The small rear garden measured 58 square feet with two brick storage barns.
