The old Political Warfare Studio was listed by English Heritage in January 2011 as Grade II, of special interest. The studio was used to record and broadcast black propaganda to Germany during World War Two. The campaign was the brainchild of Sefton Delmer. Many of the team of writers, broadcasters and engineers stayed locally including The Rookery in Aspley Guise and another studio at Wavendon Tower [Buckinghamshire] was also used. A wireless station nearby on the ridge at Potsgrove, formimg part of Hill Farm, broadcast the signal from the studio to Germany.

The listing, which is on the Heritage Gateway website gives very detailed information about the studio and its background. Sadly, because it was a secret, central government establishment, Bedfordshire and Luton Archives and Records Service has no information about it. It was used by the scouts, who have a camp ground around the building for the twenty or so years leading up to 2010 when it was declared unsafe and closed.
