Whitwick
Whitwick Green shown in 1884
Whitwick, alias Whitwick End alias Whitwick Green is, like Bourne End, a deserted medieval settlement. The Bedfordshire Heritage Environment Record notes: "The site of a possible medieval settlement, indicated by cropmarks and levelled earthworks. Linear close boundaries and areas of ridge and furrow have been recorded. The ridge and furrow was being destroyed by ploughing by 1947" [HER 3646, 9992 and 9993].
The settlement lay east of North End, up against the Thurleigh boundary and some of it may now lie beneath the precincts of Thurleigh Airfield Business Park. As late as 1624 a survey of the Manor of Bletsoe [WG10] noted nine houses of tenants of the manor in Whitwick End, two of which were newly built.
