Romano-British Brooches Found in Souldrop

The Bedfordshire Historic Environment Record [HER] contains information on the county’s historic buildings and landscapes and summaries of each entry can now be found online as part of the Heritage Gateway website. In recent years a large number of Roman brooches have been discovered by metal detectorists in Souldrop:

  • A copper alloy bow brooch from the 1st century AD found in February 2011 [HER 19456]
  • Part of an incomplete copper alloy brooch [HER 19496]
  • A copper alloy bow brooch of the 1st century AD found in February 2011 [HER 19640]
  • An incomplete, cast, copper alloy T-shaped brooch from the 1st century AD found in December 2010 [HER 19732]
  • A copper alloy headstud brooch from the 2nd or 3rd century [HER 19744]
  • A copper alloy wing-and-fanbow brooch from the 1st century AD found in March 2010 [HER 19792]
  • A copper alloy bow brooch found in May 2009 [HER 20160]
  • A copper alloy Aucissa brooch from the mid-1st century AD found in May 2009 [HER 20172]
  • A copper alloy lugged disc brooch of the 2nd century found in May 2009 [HER 20173]
  • A cast, copper alloy headstud brooch of the late 2nd century found in October 2008 [HER 20218]
