Roman Coins Found in Souldrop

The Bedfordshire Historic Environment Record [HER] contains information on the county’s historic buildings and landscapes and summaries of each entry can now be found online as part of the Heritage Gateway website. In recent years a large number of Roman coins have been found by metal detectorists in Souldrop.

• A silver denarius of Trajan (98-117) dating to the years 98 and 99 and found in December 2010 [HER 19748]
• A copper coin of Constantine (307-337) found in November 2009 [HER 20087]
• A corroded contemporary forgery of the late 3rd century, the reverse possibly saying PIETAS AUGUSTOR (“the piety of the emperors”) found in May 2009 [HER 20174]
• A copper coin of Valentinian I (364-375) or his brother Valens (367-378) minted at Arles between 364 and 367 and reading SECURITAS REIPUBLICAE (“security for the republic”) found in May 2009 [HER 20175]
• A corroded contemporary forgery of the late 3rd century found in May 2009 [HER 20177]
