11 Brook Lane is a large, impressive white painted building on the west side of Brook Lane. It was listed by the former Department of Environment in July 1975 as Grade II, of special interest. The department dated the property to the 17th century, noting that it had been reworked in the 19th century.

The property is of timber-framed construction, re-fronted in brick, and coated with colourwashed roughcast render. It has a clay tiled roof and comprises two storeys and attics. It stands gable end on to the road.  A later single storeyed lean-to with a slate roof stands at the rear.

The Rating and Valuation Act 1925 specified that every building and piece of land in the country was to be assessed to determine its rateable value. The valuer visiting 11 Brook Lane [DV1/C270/8] found it owned by A. D. Herring and occupied by G. Herring, who paid no rent ("family arrangement").

The house contained two living rooms, a kitchen, a scullery and a larder; two bedrooms and two attics stood above; there was also a cellar. The valuer commented: "Farm House type" and "New windows, tile fireplace". The occupier also leased 1.879 acres for £5/4/- per annum.
