Ivy Cottage 2011
Ivy Cottage 2011

Ivy Cottage is an attractive property in Cobbetts Lane. It was listed by the former Department of Environment in July 1975 as Grade II, of special interest. The department dated the property to the 18th century.

It is a timber framed construction with red brick infill and a thatched roof. The property comprises one storey and attics and originally had two rooms downstairs with bed spaces in the attic. Single-storeyed 20th century additions now stand at each end. The cottage stands gable end on to road.

The Rating and Valuation Act 1925 specified that every building and piece of land in the country was to be assessed to determine its rateable value. The valuer visiting the cottage [DV1/C270/137] noted that it had a living room, a kitchen and two bedrooms in the roof. Clearly the extensions had not yet been built. The owner and occupier was Mrs. S. Cole. He commented: "Stands back, nice".
