103 Tilsworth Road in 1980

103 Tilsworth Road was listed by the former Department of Environment as Grade Ii, of special interest. It is an 18th century building of which the ground floor is whitewashed brick, the first floor timber-framed with whitewashed brick nogging. The roof is thatched.

The Rating and Valuation Act 1925 ordered that every piece of land and building in the country had to be assessed to determine the rates to be paid on it. Stanbridge was assessed in 1927 and the valuer visiting 103 Tilsworth Road [DV1/C97/123] noted that it was owned by David Eames, the tenant of Bury Farm, but was currently vacant.

The property stood in 0.187 acres and comprised a living room, scullery and two bedrooms. Outside stood a weather boarded and corrugated iron barn ("good"). Of the house itself, the valuer noted: "Very poor"; "Roof in bad condition, been vacant two years, but hopes to let"; "Landlord says house all right".
