Manor Farm and barns August 2009

Bedfordshire and Luton Archives and Records Service has a document in 1677 which is a survey of the lands belonging to Colmworth Manor. It also contains the names of all the tenants occupying that land [AD1021]. The tenants, with their holdings and amount of rent paid, are listed are as follows:

• John Block: three acres of arable and Cox Field: 16/6 per annum;
• John Boston: Dyes Croft of seven acres: £5 per annum;
• Thomas Boston: a pightle of pasture of two acres: £1/13/4 per annum;
• Thomas Carrington: a cottage: £1 per annum;
• Thomas Cookson: Clerhouse, a close of pasture of two acres and one acre of pasture: £3 per annum;
• William Cooper: a messuage [dwelling], four pightles of four acres, Little Gallow Meadow of two acres and ten acres of arable: £8/7/8 per annum;
• Leonard Fisher: sixty four acres of arable, Lammas Mead of three acres and a farm house, a pightle of three acres and Nether Topham Close: £31 per annum;
• Richard Fisher: a cottage and a close of three acres: £2 per annum;
• William Gee: half of Gallow Hill of seventeen acres, half of Gallow Mead of seven acres, Little Whitebrooke of three acres and fifteen acres of arable: £31 per annum;
• Henry Gore: Great Field of twenty five acres and Begary Meadow of four acres: £26 per annum;
• Henry Hall: three Ladys Closes, Over Topham Closes and two pightles: £14 per annum;
• Thomas Hart: Reddings Close of five acres, Bage Close of two acres, Darrells Yard and a piece of land lying over against it of two acres and one acre of arable: £6 per annum;
• Clement Johnson: two hill closes of six acres, an old orchard of three acres, Netherstead Meadow of thirteen acres, Calnes Close of five acres, New Close of three acres, Over Agars Field of twelve acres and Nether Augars Field of twenty acres: £41 per annum;
• Thomas Judd: a messuage [dwelling]; Long Meadow of seven acres and ninety five acres of arable: £28/5/- per annum;
• John King: thirty acres of arable, a piece of meadow and eleven acres: £8/18/- per annum;
• Robert Nechley [?] six acres of arable, Pennysdue Close of seven acres of arable, Hanes Close, a pightle of five acres and seven acres of arable: £8 per annum;
• William Peacock: six acres of arable, Pinfold Meadows and Foxoles Close of seven acres: £11/18/4 per annum;
• William Riseley: a messuage [dwelling], sixty five acres of arable, Pond Pasture of twenty four acres, Pond Field of thirty three acres, Long Croft of seven acres and Standbrook Meadow of four acres: £41/10/- per annum;
• James Robinson: a cottage and Maggotts Croft: £3/14/- per annum;
• William Symons: a messuage [dwelling] Jening Piece of nine acres, Weapendle Meadow of two acres, The Two Leys of twenty acres, Watts Pightle of one acre, Severalls of two acres, Long Close of one acre, a pightle of one acre, Drowns Close of three acres, Grane of one acre and 112 acres of arable: £30 per annum;
