From 1940 to 1944 invasion of Great Britain by Nazi Germany was a real possibility and, as a result, parish invasion committees were set up the length and breadth of the country. Little Barford was a sub-area of the Tempsford Parish Invasion Committee but, nevertheless, had its own summary details as follows [W/Inv8]

For Invasion Committee asministrative and emergency purposes Little Barford is linked with Tempsford, but being detached from Tempsford Parish and having its own reception, first aid, and other defence facilities will be expected, if occasion requires, to make independent use of them.

The Sub-Area Secretary, Miss Gray, has a list of all able-bodied males whose services might be called on if required.

Reception of Refugees:

Most houses in the village including the Rectory (Rev. E. A. White) have been ear-marked for use if required. The School, Reading Room and Church would also be available.

The Chairman and secretary have full details of the names, addresses and telephone numbers of the representatives of the various Services in Tempsford, and would be expected to get in touch by telephone or messenger with Tempsford H. The understanding is that full practicable co-operation would be extended by the Tempsford Service to Little Barford, and that, if required, Little Barford would do its best to co-operate with Tempsford.
