Copyright
Although permission may be granted by the Archives Service to reproduce a copy of an item, those intending to publish need to be aware of their responsibility to obtain the consent of the copyright owner and to comply with the Copyright Acts.
All copies are made and issued on the understanding that this responsibility rests with those who hold the the copies. Staff can give general advice, but do not have legal training and cannot advise definitively on matters of copyright.
- Photocopies and photographs supplied by us have a copyright stamp on the back prohibiting re-copying.
- Visitors taking their own photographs are required to sign a copyright declaration.
- Reproduction rights may be held by Bedfordshire Archives. These are independent from copyright.
Some material is also subject to copying restrictions to protect the interests of depositors. In such cases, users may have to obtain the written permission of a depositor before copies can be made.
