34 High Street Upper Gravenhurst
34 High Street, Upper Gravenhurst
34 High Street is an attractive 18th century cottage. It is timber-framed and thatched and comprises one storey and attics. The cottage is not listed.
The Rating and Valuation Act 1925 specified that every building and piece of land in the country was to be assessed to determine its rateable value. The valuer visiting the cottage [DV1/C214/73] found that it was owned and occupied by C W Ansell. Accommodation comprised a kitchen, a scullery and two bedrooms. The valuer commented: “Roof all attic” and “Bedrooms in roof”. A weather-boarded and corrugated iron outhouse and earth closet stood outside, as did a barn.
