4 Church Road April 2009

4 Church Road, Tingrith in April 2009

Ivy Cottage is located at 4 Church Road and is a Grade II listed early to mid-19th century former estate cottage. The property has slate roofs with the main block is two-storeyed, of 2-room plan.

The property is mentioned in the sale particulars for the sale of Tingrith Manor in 1918 [ref: Z720/1/28].

The Rating and Valuation Act 1925 specified that every building and piece of land in the country was to be assessed to determine its rateable value. The valuer visiting the cottage found that, like most of the village, it was owned by S Hubbard. The tenant was E Southgate who worked for Hubbard.

The cottage contained two living rooms, a kitchen and a parlour downstairs with three bedrooms and a boxroom upstairs. A wood and slate washhouse and wood barn stood outside. The valuer opined: “very nice cottage”.

The property was given Grade II listed status on 31st January 1985.
