The Five Bells Public House, Houghton Regis

The Five Bells Public House: High Street, Houghton Regis 

This is thought to be the oldest pub in the village, dating back to about 1606. It started out as the Horse's Head. It was demolished in 1971 to make way for industrial units. 

Licensees: note that this is not a complete list and that dates in italics are not necessarily beginning or end dates, merely the first/last date which can be confirmed from sources such as directories and deeds:

  • 1847 – Francis Foster
  • 1853 - 1876 – George Wilson
  • 1910 – Walter Daniel Miller
  • 1924 - 1940 – James Thompson
