Houghton Regis Church Architecture
All Saints Church in Houghton Regis is medieval and stands in the heart of the old village. The building dates mainly from the 14th century with a 15th century west tower built from Totterhoe stone. The church has flint and Totterhoe stone chequer work on the exterior. There is a vestry at the west end of the north aisle which was originally taller than it is now.
The 14th century arcades have octagonal shafts with moulded bases and capitals. The remainder of the building is Perpendicular in style although most of the windows are 19th century.
There is a south aisle monument of a late 14th century knight with his feet against a lion – which is said to be Sir John Sewell. In the chancel floor there is a 15th century brass to John Waleys and a brass to Sir William Walley (d. 1506) who were both priests.
