Laburnham Cottage was listed by English Heritage in August 1983 as Grade II, of special interest. They dated the cottage to about 1700. It is of timber-framed construction, with colourwashed infill partly of plaster and partly brick. It has a half-hipped thatched roof, beneath which lie one storey and attics. A one storey addition to the west is also timber framed and thatched.

The Rating and Valuation Act 1925 specified that every building and piece of land in the country was to be assessed as to its rateable value. Chawston was assessed in 1927. The valuer visiting Laburnham Cottage [DV1/C197/122] found it owned and occupied by D. Holden.

The cottage comprised a living room, kitchen and scullery downstairs with two bedrooms above. An old weather-boarded and thatched barn stood outside. The valuer commented: "Was 2 cottages".
