Salford School about 1912 [Z50/98/8]
Bedfordshire County Council became Local Education Authority for the county in 1903, following the Education Act 1902. In 1904 the CountySurveyor reported on the condition of all the council and voluntary schools in the county under LEA control, excluding those on Bedford and Luton Boroughs which had their own executive arrangements. The surveyor's report on Salford School [E/SA2/1/1] took the form below.

Four Tobin Tubes and an Exhaust Ventilator are necessary.

The boarded roof should be painted, and the paving repaired.
A new oak sill to the front door is necessary.

The Front Bedroom needs a side light; a new window should be provided in the S. W. wall.
A new grate is needed in the back Bedroom.
House Coal Barn and Privy
The brickwork needs repairing, and a new brick floor laying.
External Repairs and Painting
Defective walling of all kinds, tiling, roofs, eaves, trough, rain water pipes, and paving about back door need generally restoring.
A floor should be laid in and about Offices and Barn, and all painting renewed.
