Gastlings Lodge
Gastlings Lodge March 2008
Gastlings Lodge is nowhere near as old as Gastlings itself. In 1927 Southill was valued under the 1925 Rating Valuation Act; every piece of land and building in the country was assessed to determine the rates to be paid on it. The valuer visiting Gastlings Lodge [DV1/A24/2] noted that it was two semi-detached buildings, both belonging to the Whitbread Estate, one in occupation of a man named Tuff the other D.Pearce.
Both dwellings comprised a parlour, kitchen, scullery and three bedrooms with a coal house, wood house and shared wash-house outside. The valuer considered them "v.good".
