Volunteers and work experience
Volunteers
The work of volunteers is important to help us progress with projects. Typical work includes:
- Cataloguing collections – the type of collection is chosen depending on a volunteers own interests and experience
- Repackaging collections – includes making folders and stock checking
- Transcription and data entry
Although the work is overseen by one of our staff, volunteers tend to work on their own project so you need to be self-motivating, methodical and accurate. We ask for a minimum commitment of half a day per week.
Space is limited so we can only take a small number of volunteers at a time. Selection is by informal interview, which includes a tour of the office and a discussion of possible projects.
If you would like to be considered please e-mail us or telephone Pamela Birch on 01234 228833. However please note that for the foreseeable future we will only be able to take volunteers when a vacancy arises.
Work Experience
We offer work experience placements to students over 18 years of age, preferably undergraduates and postgraduates considering a career in archives or records management.
Placements last a minimum of two weeks and we aim to cover the full range of activities of an archive and records management service during this period.
Space is limited so we can only provide a small number of placements a year. Selection is by informal interview. If you would like to be considered for a placement please contact us by e-mail or telephone Pamela Birch on 01234 228833.
