The Coach & Horses Public House: 2 Bedford Road, Barton-le-Clay
The Coach & Horses was a public house located , built c. 1911. The pub was run by J W Green brewery.
The Rating and Valuation Act 1925 specified that every building and piece of land in the country was to be assessed to determine its rateable value. The valuer visiting the property, on 21st February 1927 [ref: DV1/C22/15] found it was owned by J W Green Ltd and occupied by A Clark.
The property is noted as being one of the best houses in the village. Downstairs comprised a tap room, a smoke room, a kitchen, tearoom and scullery. Upstairs there were three bedrooms, one reception room and a small bathroom. Outside was a coal barn and a lean to.
Trade was 1 ½ barrels, 6 dozen bottles and 1 ½ pints of spirits per week.
