Elm Tree Cottage

Elm Tree Cottage is a 16th/17th century house, it was listed by the former Department of Environment in September 1980 as Grade II, of special interest. The property comprises of one storey with attics beneath an old clay tiled roof. The structure is timber framed under colour washed rough cast and a modern applied mock timber.

The Rating and Valuation Act 1925 specified that every building and piece of land in the country was to be assessed to determine its rateable value. The valuer visiting the property, on 21st February 1927 [ref: DV1/C94/70] found it was owned and occupied by E M Wright.

The property is noted as being “special, v. nice”. Downstairs comprised a reception room, kitchen and scullery. The upstairs is not listed. Outside is a wash house and barn.
