The Nags Head Alehouse, Haynes
Information from The History of the Village of Haynes by David J. Morris
The Nags Head: Northwood End, Haynes
The Nags Head alehouse was owned by William Dunham in 1847 and licenced in 1858 when it was run as a free house. The licence was never converted into a full licence and, like The Red Lion at Deadman's Cross at that time, was always a beerhouse only.
In 1862 William Dunham was licensee, and between 1881 and 1903 John Dunham was the tenant. In 1914 John Henry Dunham was the licensee.
J.W Green Brewery owned the premises between 1936 and 1952 and in the 1960s Mrs H. Evans was the licensee.
In 1972 The Nags Head was demolished and a rebuilding and restoration scheme undertaken by Mead Estates [ref: Z284/5/78/9-10].
