Haynes Church Architecture
The church from the south east, November 2015
The church of St Mary in Haynes has a largely Victorian appearance, however it incorporates the late 14th century west tower, the old tower and chancel arches, the south arcade of c.1300 and the shell of the medieval chancel from the old building. The old church is illustrated in prints which show a low nave without clerestory and a south aisle with embattled parapet. North and south porches are mentioned by Archdeacon Bonney, whose visitation returns of 1833 and 1836 express concern about the state of the roofs.
