The Stag Public House Leighton Buzzard

The Stag about 1906
The Stag about 1906 [Z1306/72]

The Stag Public House: 1 Heath Road, Leighton Buzzard.

Bedfordshire & Luton Archives & Records Service does not have many records for this public house because it was owned by out-county breweries. The countywide Return of Licensed Premises for 1876 states that the occupier was Edward Smith and owner brewer Henry Fowler of Woburn. The return states that it was first licensed in 1854. Dates of first licensing have been proved to not always be accurate, however, there is no evidence to contradict this date.

By 1891 the owner was Parrot, Walker & Company of Aylesbury, by 1903 it had become the Aylesbury Brewery Company. The Stag was a beerhouse until a full licence was transferred from the recently closed Boot in February 1904 making it a public house. At the time of writing [2009] the Stag is owned by Fuller, Smith and Turner.
