Cockayne Hatley Church

The church from the south-east February 2013

Cockayne Hatley Church from the south, Feb 2013

The church of St John the Baptist in Cockayne Hatley is in an isolated position, a distance from the village. The building dates from the 12th century and has an irregular plan which reflects successive rebuilding until the Reformation. The most notable features include an Early English four bay north arcade, the Decorated south arcade of four bays and Perpendicular west tower. The church is built from brown cobbles and ironstone with ashlar dressings.
