George Wells
Mayor of Bedford:1893-1894, 1896-1898.
George Wells was the owner of a furniture shop now known as Harrison Gibson’s and was brother of Charles Wells the brewer (who was also a Councillor) and uncle of George Hayward Wells, Mayor 1931. He was very interested in the Corporation parks and gardens. The parchment shown in the portrait is the conveyance of Russell Park, which was presented to the Corporation in 1894.
