Bedfordshire Training Home for Girls 1912 to 1930

After relocating to purpose built premises in 1912 the Home continued to flourish until the late 1920s.

In 1930 after much deliberation the Home was transferred to the St Albans Diocesan Association for Girls Aid, and later became Bedford Mother & Baby Home.

A document in file ref.ST1539 outlines the reasons for this:

1) Retirement of working staff 43 & 32 years of service.

2) Fewer applications for girls aged 14 - 16.

3) War Pension Girls coming to an end.

4) Change from Guardians to County Council.

5. Raising the leaving school age to 15.
