Bedfordshire Manorial Documents Register Update

Moggerhanger Court Roll

Detail from the Moggerhanger, Chalton and Southmills Manor Court Roll[ref.AD1104]

The Manorial Documents Register, maintained by The National Archives on behalf of the Master of the Rolls, identifies the nature and location of manorial records. They include court rolls, surveys, maps, terriers, documents and books of every description relating to the boundaries, franchises, wastes, customs or courts of a manor.

The National Archives and Royal Holloway College have appointed a project officer for the Bedfordshire Manorial Documents Register Project. Sarah Charlton has already completed the Manorial Documents Register project for Berkshire and Buckinghamshire and we are sure her previous experience will be of enormous benefit when she begins work on Bedfordshire at the end of April.

The project is due to take 14 months to complete. Thanks are due to those people who have expressed an interest in helping with the project as volunteers. Unfortunately there has been a delay in receiving data from The National Archives which has prevented us from using volunteers for the data input as yet.  We may still need volunteers to help with other aspects of the project as it progresses but until Sarah gets started it is impossible to identify exactly what is required. If you are interested do keep an eye on our website, where we will post details of vacancies as they occur.
