Edworth Church Architecture
St George’s church in Edworth was begun in around 1200 and was built from a combination of cobblestones, ironstone and limestone, with ashlar dressing. The aisles and chancels were added in the early 14th century, and the tower, clerestory and porches date from the late 15th century. The fittings include some 15th century stalls, and there are 14th century wall paintings and good medieval glass in the chancel South window and the clerestory south window. Pevsner identifies the painting as two kings from the story of the Three Quick and the Three Dead. The font dates from the 15th century and has carved panels. The chancel retains some 15th century pews, with carved poppyheads and lion and bear finials.
The church was closed in 1972 and declared redundant two years later. In 1976 it was vested in the Redundant Churches Fund.
