Ampthill Church Architecture
The present church of St Andrew dates chiefly from the 14th and 15th centuries but the foundations of the 12th century church were found during excavations in 1975. The church is built of ironstone.
The later church has a nave and chancel which date from the 14th century. The north and south aisles, south porch, west tower and south porch date from the 15th century. Inside, the four bay arcades are of tall 14th century piers. The mouldings are also typically 14th century as is the chancel arch. The church retains the 15th century roof with angels and shields and there is a ceilure above the former rood.
