List of Henlow Vicars

Advowson

According to the Victoria County History (VCH) published in 1908 the Henlow advowson was given to the monks of Llanthony Priory by Nigel son of Erfast. It was retained by them until the Dissolution of the Monastery when it lapsed to the Crown. At the time of the Dissolution the rectory of Henlow was worth £11 0s 6d. The Crown sold it to John Fish and John Clarke in 1590. In 1624 it passed to Edward Kent and in 1670 Thomas Kent disposed of part of the rectory to George Edwards, owner of Henlow Warden. Prior to 1697 Edwards acquired the whole of the rectory as that year it was transferred to the then lord of Henlow Lanthony, Richard Buckby. The VCH states that the advowson appears to have followed the descent of the manor until it was transferred from the Addingtons to the Alliance Bank in the 1880s.
