The Rating and Valuation Act 1925 specified that every building and piece of land in the country was to be assessed to determine its rateable value. The valuer visiting Wardhedges in 1926 annotated a 1901 2nd edition Ordnance Survey map as shown above. To see a larger version, please click on the image. The buildings he described are as follows, using the annotated number on the map.

  • 86: occupier J. Downing; owner A. Harris; pre-war rent £6/10/- per annum; present rent £8 per annum; brick and slate semi-detached; living room; kitchen; two bedrooms; "High" [presumably meaning the rent.
  • 87: occupier W. Sherwood; owner A. Harris; pre-war rent 1/6 per week; current rent 2/- per week; brick and slate semi-detached; living room; kitchen; two bedrooms.
  • 88: occupier G. Stimson; owner A. Harris; pre-war rent 1/6 per week; present rent 2/- per week; "all as 87".
  • 89: occupier C. Downing; owner A. Harris; rent 2/- per week; "same as 88".
  • 90: occupier H. Stanley; owner A. Harris; "same as 89".
  • 91: The Jolly Coopers
  • 92: owner and occupier A. Harris; weather-boarded, brick and slate; five bay open shed, store barn; "used for Market Garden".
  • 93: owner and occupier W. Downing; brick, render and tile detached; living room, kitchen, scullery, three bedrooms; "was two".
  • 94: owner and occupier W. Downing; wood and tile; stable, for three, store barn, open shelter, "lean to".
  • 116: occupier G. Goodman; owner S. Caulcott; £6/10/- per annum rent; brick and slate, semi-detached; living room, kitchen, two bedrooms; "Stands back, nice".
  • 117: occupier Miss S. Harris; owner S. Caulcott; "same as 116".
  • 118: occupier Miss S. Richardson; owner S. Caulcott; "same as 117".
  • 119: occupier E. H. Odell; owner S. Caulcott; "same as 118".
  • 120: occupier W. Mann; owner R. Harris; rent 2/- per week; brick and tile, semi-detached; living room, kitchen "small", two bedrooms; "Tiny".

  • 125: occupier H. G. Porter; owner Mrs. Porter; no rent; brick and slate, semi-detached; living room, kitchen, scullery, three bedrooms.
  • 126: occupier J. Catlin; owner W. H. Thompson; £25 per annum rent; "same as 125"
  • 127: occupier T. Thompson; owner W and P. Thompson; 31- per annum rent "family"; roughcast and asbestos, detached; living room, kitchen, scullery, two bedrooms; "Bungalow 2 bays down, 1 Bed up".
