A Medieval Tragedy in Wardhedges

Volume XLI produced by Bedfordshire Historical Records Society in 1960 was a selection of medieval coroner's rolls for Bedfordshire held at the National Archives and translated by  R. F. Hunnisett. Entry number 182 reads as follows.

"County Court of 16th September 1275. Towards vespers on 5th September Geoffrey son of Richard, aged 3, went out of his father's house at Wardhedges in Silsoe and by misadventure fell into a well outside his father's door and drowned. His father came from the field and first found him dead, shouted at which the neighbours came, and found pledges, Robert of Barton and Henry Loccing of Ion".
