110 High Street Riseley

110 High Street was listed by the former Department of Environment in June 1974 as Grade II, of special interest. The house dates from the 17th century with an 18th century rear wing. It is built of colour-washed roughcast over a timber frame, has a thatched roof and comprises one storey and attics. There is a 20th century flat-roofed extension at the rear.

The Rating and Valuation Act 1925 specified that every building and piece of land in the country was to be assessed to determine its rateable value. The valuer visiting the property [DV1/C217/96] found that it was owned and occupied by a Mrs Brown. The property stood in just under half an acre and comprised a living room, parlour, kitchen and four bedrooms. A brick and tiled cottage was used as a washhouse, scullery and store. A small orchard stood at the rear and outbuildings comprised two weather-boarded and corrugated iron fowl sheds, a brick and tiled wood store and a weather-boarded and tiled fowl house. The valuer commented: "Would make a charming country cottage".
