This mid-19th century property is listed by the former Department of the Environment as Grade II, of special interest. It is constructed of yellow brick with a concrete tile roof.

The Rating and Valuation Act 1925 specified that every building and piece of land in the country was to be assessed to determine its rateable value. At this time 28 Market Square was described as a brick and slate terrace house with a living room and kitchen downstairs, two bedrooms upstairs, and a wash house and earth closet outside. It was rented from Miss Horley by T. Randall for 5s per week [DV1/C85/53].

In June 1957 electrical contractors John Kent briefly ran a business from the premises before moving to 9 Herne Close in May 1958 [Z913]. In 2015 sale particulars listed the accommodation at 28 Market Square as: entrance porch; lounge; dining room; cellar; kitchen; two bedrooms; bathroom; rear garden with brick built shed [Z449/7/1].
