Cherry Tree Cottage Stanford

Cherry Tree Cottage March 2008
Cherry Tree Cottage March 2008

Cherry Tree Cottage, 106 Mill Road, was listed by the former Department of Environment as Grade II, of special interest. They considered it to be an 18th century house and it has a timber-framed construction with a colour-washed rough-cast render over it; the roof is of clay tiles.

In 1927 Stanford was valued under the Rating Valuation Act 1925; every piece of land and building in the country was assessed to determine the rates to be paid on it. The valuer visiting Cherry Tree Cottage [DV1/C152/22] noted that it was owned by the Whitbread Estate and tenanted by S.Rook who paid 1/6 rent per week. The cottage comprised two living rooms, a kitchen and three bedrooms. The valuer commented: "Bedroom in roof. Slope. Been done up".
