The Fox and Fowler Inn Ridgmont

The Fox and Fowler Inn: Ridgmont

The only reference to this establishment is in a mortgage of 1829 from Thomas Potter MacQueen of Ridgmont House to Robert Frank Romer, John Gray and Henry William Marriott of considerable lands in Houghton Conquest, Stotfold, Wilshamstead, Radwell and Ridgmont including the Fox & Fowler, which had malting and 16 acres of land [SA437].

This inn is not noted in the countywide licensing records of 1822 to 1828 [CLP13] held at the office, suggesting it was a new business in 1829. the other posibility is that it was the former Horseshoes Inn which had simply changed name.
