Saint Mary’s Catholic Lower School is always considered a Dunstable school but it lies, in fact, just over the boundary in the civil parish of Caddington. The site, together with the sites for Streetfield Middle and Manshead Upper Schools was conveyed by Joan Crawley Ross Skinner and her trustees to Bedfordshire County Council in July 1965 for £135,000 [CCE2070/2]. Five years later the Saint Mary’s site, approximately two acres, was conveyed by the council to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Northampton for £22,000 [CCE2070/11].

The school opened in 1972 as a lower school – for pupils aged four to nine years. From here children go on to a middle school between the ages of nine and thirteen then to an upper school.
